Safety at NexGen Paving & Excavating
Construction and excavation work involves inherent risks. At NexGen Paving & Excavating, we reduce those risks through comprehensive training, strict safety protocols, and a culture where every crew member has the authority to stop work if they see something unsafe.
Our owner built this company with safety as a non-negotiable foundation. We don’t take shortcuts that compromise worker safety or put your property at risk. Ever.
Our Safety Commitment
Every NexGen employee receives thorough safety training before setting foot on a job site. We maintain current certifications, conduct regular safety meetings, and update our protocols as industry standards evolve. Safety isn’t a quarterly meeting topic—it’s how we operate every single day.
We protect our crews, your property, and the public through proper equipment maintenance, appropriate personal protective equipment for every task, clear communication and site management, and strict adherence to OSHA standards and local regulations.
Equipment Safety
Our fleet receives regular maintenance and inspection. We don’t operate equipment that isn’t functioning properly, and we replace worn or damaged tools immediately. Modern equipment includes safety features that protect operators and those working nearby—we use them.
Before any equipment reaches a job site, it’s inspected and verified safe for operation. Our operators are trained and experienced, understanding both how to run equipment efficiently and how to work safely around others.
Excavation Safety
Excavation and trenching present serious hazards if not managed properly. We follow strict excavation safety protocols including calling 811 for utility locates before any digging begins, shoring or sloping trenches according to depth and soil conditions, maintaining proper clearances from excavation edges, and monitoring excavations throughout the workday.
We never ask crew members to enter unsafe trenches or excavations. If conditions aren’t right, we take the time to make them right before proceeding.
Traffic and Site Safety
Construction sites create hazards for workers and the public. We manage these risks through proper signage and traffic control measures, clearly marked work zones with appropriate barriers, coordination with local authorities when working near roadways, and maintaining clear pedestrian and vehicle routes when possible.
On commercial properties, we establish safe work zones that minimize disruption while protecting customers and employees. On residential properties, we protect surrounding areas and maintain safe access for homeowners.
Continuous Improvement
Safety protocols evolve as we learn from experience and industry best practices advance. We regularly review our procedures, incorporate lessons learned from near-misses or incidents, and stay current with changing regulations and standards.
Our safety program isn’t static—it’s a living commitment to protecting everyone involved in or affected by our work.
Your Safety Matters Too
When we’re working on your property, we establish clear boundaries and communicate any hazards. We ask that you keep children and pets away from active work areas and respect safety barriers and signage we’ve established. If you have questions or concerns about safety during a project, talk to our crew supervisor immediately.
The Bottom Line
No project timeline or budget pressure justifies compromising safety. If weather conditions aren’t safe, we don’t work. If equipment isn’t functioning properly, we don’t use it. If a crew member identifies a hazard, we stop and address it.
This commitment to safety protects our people, your property, and our reputation. It’s not negotiable, and it’s one of the core values that defines NexGen Paving & Excavating.
